The BAFTA-winning star is taking on the role of Macbeth in London’s West End next month.
But cult director Quentin Tarantino put on a special version of the Scottish play with James and Jonathan Creek star Alan Davies for tonight’s Graham Norton Show.
Tarantino got McAvoy to brandish a samurai sword like one from his hit film Kill Bill for an excerpt from the play.
Speaking about Macbeth, McAvoy said: “It’s Scottish but there are no kilts, no shortbread, no Irn-Bru. There may be whiskey, there will be blood.”
But the dark play won’t be as unnerving for McAvoy as when he starred in Privates On Parade with former EastEnders actor Nigel Harman.
“We both came on naked and had to stand to attention for five minutes,” he said. “I thought I would look at the audience and realized my sister was there.”
